San Diego, July 14, 2025 – The rooftop lights sparkled, the candy flowed, and the spirit of Gene Wilder was everywhere at our very special Birthday Celebration held at Rooftop Cinema Club San Diego—and what a truly magical night it was!

Fans, friends, artists, and supporters came together for an unforgettable evening that celebrated Gene’s legacy through film, storytelling, music, and the power of community. With a sold-out crowd enjoying back-to-back screenings of Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory and Young Frankenstein, the air was filled with laughter, memories, and more than a few happy tears.

⭐ Evening Highlights:

Karen Wilder, Gene’s loving wife, joined us for a touching post-film conversation. Her grace, humor, and heartfelt memories made the night deeply personal and profoundly moving.

A beautiful video presentation gave attendees an exclusive first listen to the never-before-heard version of “Ain’t It Kind of Wonderful”, featuring Gene Wilder and Harry Connick, Jr. The song was accompanied by a video montage of personal photos from Karen’s own collection, offering a rare and intimate glimpse into their life together.

David H. Crean introduced Karen and set the tone with a warm reflection on Gene’s artistry and enduring impact.

Original Wilder-inspired artwork by Keilyn Skye Hazel was on display and available for purchase, bringing Gene’s whimsical spirit to life in bold color.

Candy Andy Wonka spread sweet joy with golden ticket giveaways and a performance that made everyone feel like a kid again.

The Alzheimer’s Association® was present to share resources and honor Gene’s journey with compassion and advocacy.

The rooftop venue—courtesy of the amazing team at Rooftop Cinema Club, led by Laura Zenoni and Jason Rammelsberg—was the perfect setting for this heartfelt gathering under the stars.
